Laugh out Loud!!

UP Diliman faculty in grand musical extravaganza.

Forget American Idol or Pinoy Idol for that matter. This year’s hottest reality show is about to hit UP Diliman as its most revered faculty revives a tradition that will surely have the students busting their guts from laughter.

Come December 15, the UP Theater will become comedy central as students will get the very rare chance to watch their favorite professors at their emo best, and we don’t mean academic wise.

Entitled Hagikhikan 2008: The Boldabil Challenge, the 2-hour spectacle will feature acts showcasing everything from a Balagtasan to an Ultimate Diva Showdown.

The event is the first-ever Diliman-wide mounting of the Faculty Follies, an event that allows some of its best minds to dazzle, enchant and entertain audiences in ways never thought possible.

Part reality-TV spoof and part live musical comedy, the two-hour performance will revolve around an audition for a fictional reality TV show, with the show’s hosts as the Director and judges.

The show promises participation from the highest echelons of the University, including the current roster of Vice Chancellors as well as the deans of various academic units.

Aside from perennial favorites from the College of Arts and Letters (CAL) (who have been successfully staging the event for its students), this year the Faculty Follies will feature participants from academic units such as the College of Engineering, the College of Architecture, the College of Mass Communication, CAL, the Asian Institute of Tourism and the College of Music.

Hosting the show are CAL professor Dr. Jovy Peregrino and Vice Chancellor for Research and Development Dr. Jose Luis Sison,

The event is organized and produced by the Office for Initiatives in Culture and the Arts (OICA) for the Office of the Chancellor.

Two performances are set, with a matinee at 3 pm and a gala performance at 7 pm. The show is free-seating, so audiences are advised to come early. Tickets at P100 are available at the OICA office.
